PLAY Parlour is a collection of hand-built arcade games.
We are re-defining what it is to be an arcade. Pulling elements from classic arcades (pre-video) and carnival midways, PLAY Parlour is building an atmosphere that sits somewhere between cocktail-lounge and coffee-house. Within that setting, PLAY Parlour will evolve as more and more artists, makers, and gamers contribute their ideas and work to our selection of (and perhaps, the definition of) games. We apply that approach to all of our events (watch this trailer) and our involvement in others’ events.
This array of joy and glory will be available to you to come play just as soon as we find a home. With some elaborately crafted games that you know (like skeeball and mini-golf) as well as some hybrids you may never have thought of (water polo + foosball = ….), PLAY Parlour will provide both an alternative and an accompaniment to the traditional ‘going out,’ to the bar, or to a restaurant, etc.
We had an incubation space at 5258 Butler Street in Pittsburgh PA, but our lease ran out and we are now looking for a more permanent home so that we can bring all of what we’re doing to you on a regular basis. (and I, for one, cannot wait to delete that sentence) When we do, you can play any of our games all day long. We’ll stamp your hand so you can leave and come back. Or, you can stay the whole time: Take advantage of the free filtered water and cup of coffee, and lounge on a comfy couch or chair playing any of the various board games scattered about or trying your hand at assembling old wooden three dimensional puzzles. To top the whole package off, you can bring your own beer or wine.
